The Scarboni Scam?
At WAR X, the WAR Wrestling Tag Team Titles were defended in a four-way match where champions The Painkillers defended against The Alpha Breed, The Scarbonis, and legendary team The Highlanders.
In the end, The Scarbonis, and their associate Vinnie from Jersey, walked away holding the tag team titles.
While the match may have gone the Scarbonis way, the match didn’t exactly go as planned.
The match at WAR X was originally scheduled to be a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, but The Scarbonis made it well known that they were not happy with the stipulation.
Going into WAR X, both WAR offices and us here at WARwrestling.com were bombarded with complaints from the Scarbonis and Vinnie from Jersey, all voicing their displeasure and promising that things would change at WAR X “one way or the other”.
No one really knew what to make of these statements other than the outbursts of frustrated, and concerned, wrestlers who were simply lashing out at circumstances beyond their control.
That was until WAR’s tenth anniversary. At the event, WAR fans found out there were two changes made to the tag team title match. One was the inclusion of the Highlanders, which delighted many Lima fans. The second change was more controversial, that it was no longer a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match.
Vinnie made it known that the Scarbonis’ contract had a clause that they had to be notified of stipulation matches a full 60 days in advance and failure to do so meant they could refuse the stipulation.
While this was certainly a beneficial to the Scarbonis, especially in this case, one has to wonder how Vinnie managed to get such a clause into their contract in the first place. What kind of leverage could Vinnie have in contract negotiations with WAR Wrestling?
This clause could only work to the advantage of the Scarbonis, which they know full well. With this in their contract, the Scarbonis have the advantage of knowing not only their opponents, but the stipulations under which they will face them, 2 months before the match actually takes place.
Two full months to not only prepare for their opponents, but also for the stipulation as well, allowing them to plan accordingly. This is written into their contract, mandating that for a stipulation match to occur they have to be informed 60 days beforehand or run the risk of a repeat of WAR X, where the Scarbonis can simply reject the stipulation.
To my knowledge, this is a unique clause that no one else in WAR Wrestling has and it puts the Scarbonis, and by extension Vinnie from Jersey, at a distinct advantage against any opponent that may come their way.
The facts are the Scarbonis are the new WAR Wrestling Tag Team Champions and with their contract as it’s written, they very well could hold those titles for a very long time.
